Naish Supercross 250 Year 2004
Category SuperX Board (Small)
Test Report from boards U.K magazine
Compared to the other boards in this test the Naish feels extremely small, at least 5L less than the 85 quoted! It's compact, nippy and fast with a classic wave-slalom feel. Early planing is slightly compromised by the lack of volume, but once it starts to get going it's very good. It has the balance and poise of a small slalom or freeride board - comfortable and controllable at high speeds, nippy, agile and a great jumper / gyber / blaster. In particular it feels compact and agile in the air, with a very attached-to-your-feet feel. For these reasons it was the best looper of the test.
Riding: It keeps speed well and prefers more drawn out turns, through which it gives great grip. It has a great 'off-the-top' with its narrow tail slicing into the wave excellently. Although by nature a fraction stiffer than most, its small size keeps it agile, though you need to work that little bit harder on the wave to avoid stalling.
Aerial & 'Styling: It uses its speed to boost you up, and with its domed deck and small size is very attached to your feet in the air, which really lends itself to looping or skying big air. However, with its narrowness and apparent low volume it does not lend itself so well to freestyle, presenting too small a planing surface and not a great deal of margin for error for anyone other than very lightweight sailors.
Fittings: The DaKine straps are a little stiff and can twist unless you can do them up tight enough, but are undoubtedly good quality. It comes with an appropriately-sized 23cm Powerbox fin.
Guesters' Opinion: A very popular little board with the guesters, who loved its jumping, lively blasting and ease of use.
Range / Ideal Conditions: 4.2-5.7m. sails. Waves and bump-and-jump.
Overall: It has quite a 'traditional' feel, and is very well suited to riders looking for a fast high wind board for charging around, doing big jumps and maybe some occasional waveriding if conditions permit. It just misses out on being a test winner as it feels a little small for an 85L board, but it excels at delivering high wind excitement in a flat water or bump-and-jump environment. Very applicable to light / medium weight sailors and very relevant as a one-board-only high wind machine for all conditions. Highly recommended.
